How Internships Help You Get a Job

Most students at colleges and universities understand the importance of higher education. While having your high school diploma can help you get a lot of different kinds of jobs, a college degree might be necessary to get the higher-paying jobs. In recent years, the poor economy has had people returning to school in order to broaden their experiences and help them find new jobs. For college or university students in a study program, having access to internships can do wonders for getting a job once your education is complete. Internships like those found at are much more than a degree, they allow potential employers to see you in action, and may make access to job offers even easier.

More Than a Degree

Degrees are important to have. When you are working toward your college education, the thought of having that degree in hand might be the only thing that keeps you going at times. Once you have that degree, what’s next? While it’s important to focus on completing your coursework and getting your degree, it is also very important to work on gaining experience. Many students find that once they have their degree, they still lack the work experience that many employers require. EndeavorUP can help connect you to businesses that offer internships as a way for you to gain work experience before you receive your degree. This allows you to build up experience so that once you do graduate, you are really ready to step into a career.

Potential Employers See You in Action

Not only do internships help you get valuable experience in the work force, but they also help potential employers to see how you work in various environments. If you decide to participate in more than one internship over the course of your studies, you could get experience in various fields and put your name out there to several different companies. It’s also important to note that many internships offer paid positions, which means that your internship is really a job where you can make money—all while continuing your education and gaining the work experience you need to step into a career.

Job Offers are Just Around the Corner

Although some students might look at internships as a temporary position, sometimes these work-study positions end up turning into full-time careers. If you find an internship that is the right fit with the right company, and the company is in turn impressed with your work, you might just find that you have a job offer later down the road. The great news is that job offers can come from anywhere—not just the companies with which you decide to intern.

Internships serve many different purposes. They offer students the opportunity to gain more than just a degree by the time they are finished with their higher education. Internships help to provide work experience to students before they put themselves out into the working world. Potential employers are able to see these students in action and find potential employees that would be a great fit for their company. If you are looking for an internship to help supplement your college education and pad your resume, check out the options that are available.

Studying in Sustainability Masters Programs

Studying in sustainability Masters programs is often the best way for people to take their career to the next level without changing their career focus or leaving their industry. However, other people can use these degrees to change their life path altogether and enter a new career that will be completely different from the one they left. The sustainability field is one where people are constantly being hired because every business is under pressure to become sustainable and reduce their carbon footprint.

Learning the strategies and tactics that businesses can use to ensure their sustainability is something that anyone can do with a little bit of help from an online degree program. With these programs, people can go to school and still keep their job while they decide how they want to carry on with the next phase of their life. The traditional classroom is not for everyone, and family obligations often make it difficult for people to make it class and complete their studies.

However, an online degree program provides more chances for the student to get what they need out of the program while still maintaining their regular schedule. People do not have to quit their jobs or neglect their families in order to get their education and change their career path.

Also, there are people who would prefer not to go back to a regular classroom because of the experiences they had in regular classrooms in their youth. Rather than trekking to campus everyday, these students can learn at their own pace online. This means that students only need an internet connection and a computer to get their studies in. People can earn degrees completely through the computer and add a Master’s degree to their resume without ever having to set foot on a university campus.

The choice to change career paths and learn more about the field of sustainability is a brave one that many people will take in order to increase their earning potential or go into a different industry where they will be happier. Getting these degrees online is easy, works the same as getting a traditional degree and provide the knowledge necessary for the student to improve their career prospects.

Tips for Staying Awake During Long Hauls

There are many trucking companies hiring good, safe drivers — so make sure you know how to stay safe while driving on the road. Some experienced truckers are keen to share their tips for traveling those thousands of miles.

Cat-nap before getting on the road. A short 30-minute nap right before heading out can do wonders for your energy level.

Eat a healthy meal. Many truckers go with quick and easy food but these meals often lead to energy buzzes that result in energy crashes, which you don’t want. Try to eat healthy while on the road.

Take your vitamins. They will not only help you have more energy; they will also keep you healthy.

Move when you get tired. Take a five-minute stop and stretch your legs, do five to 10 minutes of cardio, and get some fresh air.

Crank up the volume. Turn on the radio and sing your lungs out. The loud music and singing will keep you engaged.  Don’t worry, no one else will be able to hear you!

Keep yourself hydrated and avoid caffeine. Dehydration will lead to exhaustion as your body wants to shut down and conserve energy. Caffeine will only provide a temporary boost. Stick to water and juices.

These are just a few simple ways truckers have found to help them stay safe.

Five Free Awesome Online Graphing Tools For Your Next Project

In a computer lab helping students create graphs for a math project or math test?

Working with a committee of teachers preparing a report for your administration? Or just sitting at home putting together slides for a new lesson? In all of these cases — and many more — you can find yourself needing easy-to-make graphs and charts. The days of having to own expensive software packages to accomplish this are long gone. The web offers tons of options, most of them free, for creating, editing, and downloading what you need. Let’s look at five of the best options:

  1. Desmos is one of the very best out there. Desmos offers an amazing online calculator which is integrated with tons of teacher-based and student-centered activities and explorations. To see one among hundreds of examples that have been created by users, click here to see a force/vector simulation.
  2. GraphFree is another, much simpler, option for creating graphs relating to the math curriculum. Any graphs that students can create on their TI-84s can be done here, using an interface that is somewhat similar to what they are probably already used to. But there are many other options: With the click of a pull-down menu they can create implicit, piecewise, parametric, and polar graphs — as well as slope fields and number lines. Click here to watch some of their demo videos.
  3. At the other end of the complexity spectrum, the National Center for Education Statistics offers Create A Graph, as part of its Kids’ Zone. Offering a very simple interface, this is a site which allows you to create bar, line, area, pie, and basic XY-plane graphs, and to download them conveniently.
  4. Another more scaled-down math graphing calculator can be found at FooPlot. Offering quick and easy access to the main settings (graph background, labeling, window, etc.), FooPlot allows you to rapidly graph several functions at a time and to download or project the results.
  5. The University of Rhode Island offers a nice Flash-based 3D graphics tool here. It is very easy to use, and displays a very clear, rotatable picture of the function entered. It lacks an embedded download option, but by using a screengrabber you can easily get an image that is suitable for adding to a webpage or other digital display, such as Power Point.

The Benefits of Becoming an Owner-Operator

While not everyone may have what it takes to become their own boss, creative, resourceful, and persistent individuals can make a comfortable living becoming an owner-operator of their own company. If you are considering going into business for yourself, here are four advantages of being your own boss in the trucking industry.

Flexible Hours

One of the biggest appeals of working for yourself is the ability to set your own hours. With that said, if you work inconsistently and fail to commit to meet deadlines and appointments, your business could fall flat. Be realistic about your schedule and don’t give yourself too many sick days or vacation time. Truckers have different schedules than most other workers, so you’ll need to evaluate your own needs.

Greater Control

As your own boss, you’ll have the freedom to implement your own decisions that determine the future success of your company. As an employee, you can only exercise control within the parameters of your title. As an owner-operator, you decide what jobs you take.

Doing What You Love

Becoming an owner-operator permits you to turn your passion into a livelihood. You’ll also enjoy a greater sense of satisfaction operating your own business. If you consistently work well and meet your client’s expectations, the sky is your only limit.

Developing Positive Habits

When you’re relying only on yourself to run an entire company and make the shots, you’ll quickly develop a strong work ethic as every problem or success falls on your shoulders alone. Folks who run their own business develop positive characteristics including frugality, punctuality, loyalty, specialized skills, and resilience.

What are some study hacks every student should know?

Over the years I’ve given students a lot of advice on how to get the most bang for their buck on studying. If I had to narrow it down to three of the most valuable is would be: Youtube, the theory of time spaced learning, and getting the right tools are three study hacks every student should know about.

1. Youtube/video tutorials. These are invaluable. If you just can’t recall what your math teacher said you can use Khan Academy, a free service put on Youtube and Google via a math teacher. He has received wide acclaim for these tutorials and I have used them widely with my students as well as with my own children when stumped doing their homework. Besides that, there are millions of freely shared videos on Youtube that you can access through trying a few simple combinations of keywords. There is one catch though, if you didnt pay attention in class, you have to py attention to the Youtube video. Nothing is automatic.

2. “Space it Out” The theory of time spaced learning

I wrote a longer article about this here. Whether you are learning or teaching, it’s important to not over stuff your brain. Studies have shown that the mind cannot absorb more than three things at a time. So, if you are writing, don’t make more than 3 main points or they will be wasted on over-fed minds. If you are looking to read and understand something, break it down into three or less main categories. Yellow pads are great for this. You’d do well to “space out” the time you have to study as well. The theory of time spaced learning got me through College Algebra at the junior college. I have always struggled with math and a teacher shared with the class about it. My life has been improved ever since! And this will also help you get some online jobs as well.

The theory goes like this: instead of studying to absorb new material over the course of an hour, break up your time into 15 minute increments. The data shows that memory is strongest when you start and stop a study time. Therefore, instead of having strong memories only twice in an hour, you will have them at the start and stop of each mini session. This equals more knowledge retained! Now this was great news to me, because I loved taking breaks from math!

When it comes to our brains, less is more and quality is better than quantity. Slow down and take more breaks, you’ll be amazed how much more you retain for life!

3. Take the time to get the right tools. If you’ve ever failed at a household task because you stripped a screw, you know the value of the right screwdriver. Studying is the same way, it often requires tools to be done more effectively. If you are studying a foreign language, stop on the way home and get 3×5 cards for new words to study. If you need pencils, get hundreds and a reliable sharpener. Study a few times without them and you will remember what I told you. Write down the things that you need (even if they be healthy snacks) and have them ready the next time you study.

A Starting Place for New Essay Writers

pencilsI’ve run across a help for new high school and University writers. is a simple, yet helpful resource that can take a student who is a struggling writer and turn her/him into a scholar on the path to prolific. Here’s how it works: You visit the website and read the different lessons in the menu. One of them is “How to Write a Research Paper.” Another is “What is a Research Paper?” These are simple and well-written introductions to the world of higher education writing. I think for many students starting college this would help immensely by modeling. I wish I had these when I was in junior college back in 1988.

I’ve learned through my years of teachers that count up to 16 as I’m here writing that kids need things shown to them. This website models what essays should look like in many differents topics and disciplines. Leaarning abstract concepts is always easier when you have an example to follow. This site has those examples and can help kids see what a paragraph in an essay looks like. There are no annoying style ads popping out and sliding across the screen. Instead you have a foundation to start from as you begin your adventure of essay writing. I recommend this website for new essay writers.

I was compensated for my review but the opinions are 100% mine.

Getting Certified for Electrical Work – Preparing Our Kids for Future Jobs

As K-12 teachers, we work hard to get our kids to college, but which higher education will they need? Some jobds lie outside the traditional college path. Below is an explanation of one of them. It requires education and pays well but may not be the type of job you would first imagine does.

Jobs in the power industry are abundant, though there are not enough trained employees to fill them. If you like working with electrical components, HVAC systems or high voltage systems, you will want to look into what training you will need for your dream job. Programs such as American Trainco certification programs are the key to get started.

No matter what skills you may or may not have coming into this industry, you will need to complete one or more certification programs to legally work on different electrical components. Each certification program will allow you to work on a different component or aspect of electrical systems. Each course provides necessary information you need to pass a skills test at the end of the course. These tests will determine whether you become certified in a specific area or not. Most electricians will need multiple certifications over the course of their career. Also, some courses may require continuing education based on state and local laws pertaining to electricians.

Since many electricians also become apprentices during their coursework, they will be able to learn by viewing a certified electrician doing the job. This type of learning can be very beneficial to those who have an easier time learning visually than with book work. Combining both ways of learning, a person who wants a career as an electrician can do so in no time.
